- Kim Sharma and Apoorva Lakhia bonded at a recent film event
Kim Sharma and Apoorva Lakhia’s close dosti was on display at a recently concluded awards event held in Colombo.
Says a source at the awards, “Kim and Apoorva were seen at various events at the film awards extravaganza. They hung around and appeared to be enjoying each other’s company a lot. It was apparent that both appeared to share a strong camaraderie. They arrived at the party separately, they stuck by each other’s sides and even left together.”
The source adds, “Apu and Kim’s close friendship comes as a surprise because while Apu is single and doesn’t have a girlfriend, Kim has been dating Spanish pop singer Carlos Marin (of Il Divo) for over a year and they appear to be quite serious.”
Says the filmmaker, “Kim is one of my best friends and a really close buddy. I knew her even before I became a director. In fact, we hang around in each other’s homes in Mumbai too.”
Says Kim, “I have known Apu for a very long time – ever since his first film Mumbai Se Aya Mera Dost. Yes, we used to hang out a lot together. There’s no harm in chilling together and we are very good friends. We were at the party together but we didn’t leave together.”
- Shilpa Shetty celebrates her birthday with her husband
Shilpa Shetty brings in her first birthday as a married woman, today (June
and husband Raj Kundra is planning special surprises for her.
Says a source close to Shilpa, “Raj has been away in London for a few weeks now. She has been shooting for her reality show Zara Nachke Dikha and taking care of her mom Sunanda, who was recently hospitalised. It’s unfortunate that Raj wasn’t with her during this stressful time, but he wrapped up all of his work to fly to Mumbai and be with her on her birthday.”
Off to Macao
The source continues, “He just asked his wife to keep her luggage ready by Sunday night. They flew to Hong Kong on Sunday night, after which a chartered chopper took them to Macao – their final destination! Raj chose this location because he knows it’s one of her favorite holiday destinations – it’s got everything Shilpa likes – shopping, spas, casinos – it’s like Sin City!”
Shilpa says, “I am so thrilled that Raj is back to celebrate my first birthday after marriage. It means a lot to me that in spite of his busy schedule, he made time to be with me. Last year, Raj had organised a surprise party for me at a London hotel with my family and friends. But this year is more special as it’s my first birthday with my husband.”
Shilpa adds, “I miss him terribly when he’s away. Being very organised, Raj had instructed my manager to keep June 7-9 free as he wanted to surprise me with a break. Raj is full of surprises and as usual, kept me guessing till the last minute where we were going.”
The couple is staying at The Venetian in Macao at the Paiza Club that caters to premium guests in royal surroundings and comes with its own entrance, lobby, reception, and guest lifts to the rooms. Raj had a special surprise planned for Shilpa at the Paiza last night.
On her birthday last year June 08, 2009
Still reeling from the pleasant but shocking surprise party thrown by Raj. I thought Raj was taking me for a quiet birthday dinner! I froze when I entered the Mayfair penthouse suite ’cause there were 55 of my friends who screamed “Happy Birthday!!!” Shamita popped up from nowhere, she flew down especially all the way from Bombay and no it hasn’t ended, Raj had Escala the Violinists come in to perform and I love them, they were so sexy and talented! The food was catered by Nobu - my favorite and while I was just getting over it all, they brought out the birthday cake and Raj announced “Babes, SugaBabes for you!” I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw this girl band walk in ¦ It was amazing how Raj pulled it off all on his own and still managed to keep it a surprise, genius! On the whole, it was definitely my best and most special birthday, it was perfect! I have only Raj and my friends and Shamita to thank for that.
Gemma Arterton Marries Her Real-Life Prince
Gemma Arterton Marries Her Real-Life Prince
Gemma Arterton’s new hubby may not have Jake Gyllenhaal’s rock-hard abs, but he was the one with the rock.
The Prince of Persia star swapped vows Sunday with Italian love Stefano Catelli in a picturesque hilltop ceremony in the Spanish village of Zuheros, Britain’s Daily Mail reports.
Catelli proposed last summer. Arterton, 24, has said that she knew he was the one immediately, writing in her journal the night after they met that she had met the man she was going to marry.
“I gave that diary entry to him for his birthday two weeks later,” Arterton, who also got
Daniel Craig hot and bothered in Quantum of Solace, told InStyle. “But it didn’t freak him out, because he was thinking the same thing.
“I just really want to spend the rest of my life with him. He’s an amazing man.”
Tom Cruise gives a great Esquire interview – is he medicated now?
Tom Cruise – This is Tom Cruise on the June issue of Esquire. Esquire is calling this issues the “How To Be a Man” issue, although I think the piece is actually called “The Making (and Remaking) of Tom Cruise”. I kind of have to hand it to Tom – he’s always really great at selling whatever movie he has, and we can expect to see even more of him as he promotes Knight and Day, that action-comedy he’s got with Cameron Diaz. Esquire hasn’t put up the whole interview, but they did the motherload of interview excerpts online, and it looks like Tom isn’t holding back at all. He talks about the Oprah couch jumping, his father (who abandoned his family when he was very young), Katie Holmes, his kids, and throughout it all, Tom uses what I’m guessing is a lot of Scientology-speak. True, the word “thetan” doesn’t cross his lips, but there are moments where I was like “Oh, I bet that has something to do with Xenu.” Tom actually sounds so good here, I’m wondering if he’s being medicated, which is something I mentioned when he was on Oprah a few weeks ago.
On His Father: “I remember looking at my dad and wanting to understand him. I didn’t want to just write the guy off. He was lost. I can’t speak specifically in terms of why and how he got to where he was — that was his journey. All I can tell you is, he was overwhelmed by life… My mother basically did all the work, and then they got separated and I didn’t see him for a long time. He didn’t try to help the family financially or spiritually, and I lived with the effects of the chaos.”
- On the Value of Family: “You hear about people who have lifelong friends. I never was in a place long enough to have them. So that role was filled by my family. If anyone was teasing my sisters, I really felt it… I’d create different characters and ad-lib sketches to make my sisters and my mother feel better. I’d try to make them laugh. I’d do Donald Duck as John Wayne. I’d watch Soul Train and imitate the dancers. I guess you can say that’s where it started. I always had a dream to be in movies, [my family] didn’t say, That’s impossible. They laughed.”
On Knowledge: “Now, I’d ridden bikes a lot. When I was a kid, I’d set up ramps for jumps, like Evel Knievel, and crash all the time. I’d done it all — but never on a minibike. I got on. Of course, all I wanted to do was go fast, so I hit the throttle. I started off by a neighbor’s yard, went past our yard, which had a little hump, and suddenly I was airborne… Rrrrrrrrrrr! The minibike is still going. Oh, no, I’m alive… Okay, I’m alive. The minibike was wedged between the bumpers of the two cars. What a lesson: Know before you go. [You don't] have to curb your enthusiasm. Just fill it in with a little knowledge.”
On His Big Break: “The audition [for Taps] was in New York. I said one line. That was it. I had long hair at the time, so they said, ‘Hold up your hair.’ Then ‘Thank you.’ I don’t know why, but… I thought I’d get it. It wasn’t arrogance. I had a quarter in my pocket — and that was it. I’m telling you: I didn’t have bus fare to get back to where my mom was living in Jersey. I remember… standing outside the Holland Tunnel, and hitchhiking. I walked up the driveway and saw my mother. It was a distance, but I remember her face. She looked at me and I looked at her, and I thought, I got it.”
On Forgiving His Father: “Risky Business had become a hit. I hadn’t seen my father in about ten years. I found out he was dying, and I went to see him in the hospital. He knew that he’d blown it. There was deep regret. I think he was torturing himself. We tend to do that. All I could do was tell him, ‘Look, it’s okay.’ I wasn’t going to live in blame and regret. I wanted to understand what happened. I wanted to understand, so I could answer the question, What can I do to make things better? I looked at my father there dying and thought, How can I not be that guy?”
On the Joy of Work: “We shot [A Few Good Men] in one go. You could sense how it was going to be edited — like butter. At a certain point it goes beyond work, which is when it’s fun. All I can tell you is, I remember being sad afterward that it was over.”
On Being a Father: “I’ll never forget the moment I became a dad. But it’s hard to describe — that level of responsibility, the desire to give such joy. The clarity: Nothing is more important than this. I remember that first night, just staring at Bella. I was checking her every second, just looking at her, feeling that immediate bond. I was probably looking at her so much that I was keeping her up. I made a promise to her: All I can do is the best I can. But I’m not going to say I’m gonna do something and then not do it.”
On Humanity: “I got to talk to an astronaut and I asked him, ‘What’s it like going out into space and looking back at the world?’ He said that it changed his perspective. Looking back at the world, you think, My God, how small it is. What are we doing? We don’t need barriers and borders. But I already understood that. I understood it going from Canada to Kentucky.”
On the Oprah Interview: “What happened, happened… I wanted the audience to be happy just like I wanted to make my sisters and my mother happy when I did those skits as a kid. But I’ll take responsibility for my actions… Afterward, wild things were being said about me, and once they’re in the ether, there’s nothing you can do about it. It felt like being the new kid in the schoolyard again and the other kids are whispering and whispering about you and suddenly you hear what they’re saying, and you think, What? That didn’t happen. Look at the reality of the situation.”
On the Oprah Fallout: “There was a confluence of events. My deal with Paramount was up and it wasn’t extended. At first it was, Huh? I don’t get it. But people have misconceptions about that whole thing, too. Sumner Redstone and I are friends. It’s a business.”
On Katie Holmes: “Because we do live in a cynical world. It’s easy to be cynical. Making the choice not to be cynical is important. You can keep dwelling on what didn’t work, or you can figure out how to fix it. Which is what being a parent is all about. You know, I’m married to such a special woman. Every night before we go to sleep, Kate and I look at each other and it’s like, How’d we do today?”
On Success: “Those are times you learn a lot about life. You’re back to, How do I figure this out? I’d lived through so many different periods in life that I had a good idea. You just get back to work. You move forward. That’s what I did. Here we are today. Mission: Impossible IV.”
On Suri: “It’s come full circle. Now I’ll put Suri on a swing and tell her stories when I’m working on a script. I’ll start with the beginning of the movie and take her through the story beat by beat. Of course, I make it age-appropriate. She’s four years old. But she asks all the right questions: Why does that happen? Those are the bad guys? You’re the good guy, right?”
On Teaching His Children Well: “It comes down to the same thing as when I was a kid. Can I create a character that will make her happy, that will make her laugh? And you know what? She makes me get better and better, because she’s always asking me to do it again.”

Rashami Desai’s health woes
Rashami Desai’s health woes
The performances are getting tougher and jaw-dropping as the competition gets fiercer. And it seems the tension and ever rising competition has already started having its affect on the contestants. After Sushant Singh Rajput and Karan Kundra the latest celebrity to suffer health woes is Rashami Desai. The actress was seriously ill during her solo performance which will be aired this weekend. So bad was her condition that she will be seen leaving the stage just after her performance. But her bad health didn’t hamper her spirit of competition as she performed her act completely.
Informs a source, “Rashami’s blood pressure plummeted so much so, that she could barely stand. She performed on Barso Re Megha from Guru. She had apparently incorporated her own steps thus improvising in the final act right on the stage. Judges however felt that Rashami is a fabulous dancer but her choice of song has gone wrong. She was feeling so weak that she was made to sit on a chair on the stage and left immediately after having heard the judges’ comments.”
We tried contacting Rashami but she was busy in her shoot.
Anupam Kher will be seen with Shahid in Mausam
Anupam Kher will be seen with Shahid in Mausam
Anupam Kher will be seen with Shahid Kapoor in Mausam. Kher has been asked to join the unit in Edinburgh.
Says the busy actor, “I’m yet to get a clear indication of my role. But the fact that Pankaj is directing is enough incentive for me. I’m very fond of him as an actor and as a humanbeing. And I also like his son Shahid a lot.In fact in his brief career I’ve played Shahid’s father thrice (in Sooraj Barjataya’s Vivah, Dil Bole Hadippa and Badmash Company).”
This time, though, Anupam isn’t playing Shahid’s father. It is apparently the role that Pankaj Kapoor had earmarked for himself. Now with direction proving a full-time occupation Pankaj would rather concentrate on direction and let others do the acting.
However the dates for Mausam are still being worked out. Anupam now flies out to the Lake District in England for a walk-on talkathon on the BBC’s prestigious business talk show Peschartdt’s People.
The internationally-known host Michael Peschardt is known to grill the world’s most authoritative entertainers and academicians including, from India, N. Narayana Murthy, Vijay Mallya and Amitabh Bachchan.
Says Anupam, “I like representing our country on international platforms. Specially on a non-film platform. I think I’ve moved ahead of being just an actor.”
Considering the response to it, does Anupam feel a sense of relief for opting out of Gurinder Chadha’s It’s a Wonderful Afterlife when his wife was offered what he thought was an insubstantial role?
Retorts Anupam, “Not at all. Gurinder gave me my first major international break in Bend It Like Beckham. How can I forget that? Our relationship goes far beyond one film. I’m sure we’ll be working together again shortly.”
Aishwariya Rai threatened by Bipasha?
Aishwariya Rai threatened by Bipasha?
Aishwarya Rai is one of the most talented and Gorgeous actresses in the world. She has been voted so far too many times to be counted. Bipasha Basu may not be a global face yet, but she is competent enough.
Rumour has it that Aishwariya Rai and Priya Mani, who are both an integral part of the movie, were threatened by Bipasha, who plays the role of ‘Mandodhari’ in the film, and so most of her part in the movie has been edited.
The official reason given was that her role had taken up most of the space in the movie. The Bong Bombshell, obviously ’saddened’ by the sudden move, remains an optimist and maintains that she is still excited for the release of the movie.
The movie directed by the ingenius Mani Ratnam, under his production house Madras Talkies, also stars AB’s Baby Abhishek Bachchan, Kollywood actor Vikram, Govinda a.k.a Chi Chi, Ajay Gehi, Tejaswani Kolhapure and Suhasini Mani Ratnam.
